Believe, gluten free is the last thing I want to be doing. If you know me at all, you know I am a bread freak!! When I was younger, I would get the wonder brand of white bread and eat half the loaf in one sitting because it was SO soft and yummy! I love walking into subway and smelling fresh bread! I love love love bread! But per my dr's instructions, I am cutting it from my diet. At least temporarily!
I don't drink much. And when I do, its usually things like mike's hard lemonades or seagrams or moscato. Or those freezer drinks you get at Walmart. Around thanksgiving 2013, I bought Christian Brothers holiday egg nog. I am not a fan of it but knew mom and Jake would like it. When I poured their glasses I poured too much into one and took a big gulp to make it even (ocd!). And I almost instantly got hot, my face was bright red and I started itching. And that started several months of itching and hives randomly showing up and causing me to get steroids just to get it to calm down. But after the steroids it seemed to go away. So this winter, I decided to try it again and see what happens. Got the egg nog and sure enough, I reacted to right away. So I researched the ingredients and yeah I have no clue what is bothering but its something in that egg nog! Well ever since then, I now react randomly to alcohol. Mike's hard mango, Seagrams bahama mamas (that one was the worst after the egg nog!) moscato once, a sangria once, and a couple others I can't think of. My head is now constantly itchy. Doesn't seem to matter what I drink or eat. it always itches. So I emailed my dr and asked what he thought I should do and he said diet elimination. So we are starting with gluten. Whether or not that's it I do not know but its the most common one and I have many friends who are gluten free that I know can help so might as well try it. However, I didn't expect it to be quite so hard! Gluten is in EVERYTHING!!
So here's how I need help from you! I need encouragement! Recipes, lunch/snack/breakfast ideas. I need accountability and to know that I am not alone in this and that others are doing it too and struggle as well. Last night I ended up getting mcdonalds for dinner and realized that I had no clue if they had anything gluten free or not there! Is their chicken gluten free?? Probably not. And well their burgers obviously aren't! And I feel kinda dumb asking if things are gluten free or not. Someone once told me that if it was gluten free they HAD to put it on their label but I am not so sure that is true. For instance, yogurt is gluten free right?? And corn chips (fritos) are gluten free. Just to name a few. And they don't say gluten free. And now all of a sudden I have it in my head that I have to buy things that say gluten free. When in reality, I can't change my eating habits to not need bread and pasta and those things! So I am definitely going to be doing some research and hopefully creating a pinterest board of gluten free ideas that will be satisfying to me. And any help would be greatly appreciated! I miss bread. So much! But I know that if I find other foods to replace it and make me forget about bread, then I will be fine. Just got to find those foods first....
